Dashe Cellars – 2006 Florence Vineyard Zinfandel
April 2, 2009
The Facts:
This 2006 Zinfandel from Dashe Cellars is a single vineyard effort. All the fruit (100% Zinfandel) was sourced at the Florence Ranch. This offering was aged in French oak for 12 months; 18% of the barrels were new. 420 cases of this Zinfandel were produced and the suggested retail price is $32.
Dave’s Take:
This was my first experience with a wine from Dashe Cellars and I’m duly impressed. They say size doesn’t matter, but I’m not ashamed to say that I like’em big …at least when it comes to Zins. Listen, I know that some people scoff at the big California wines, but there is a difference between a good big wine and one that is simply big. This is everything to me that a Dry Creek Zin should be: fruit forward but elegant, jammy but interesting, quick to please and lingers longer than your family on Thanksgiving.
The deep garnet color pulls me to the glass, followed by floral aromas combined with berry fruit, dirt and spice. On the palate the berry fruit remains along with dirt and dark chocolate, cloves and black pepper that continues…and continues…into this incredible finish. This is a full mouth, well-balanced, luscious wine that deserves good food to go along with it, but honestly you can take this girl anywhere, she just wants to make you happy.
I can’t get enough of this wine. It is as solid as a rock, days later developing more and more earthiness testifying to its age-ability, easily 6-7 years. So drink it now or drink it later…this is a bottle to remember and ask for. So I am now a fan of Dashe Cellars, I can’t wait to try the next one.
Please vote for Drink Dry Creek!
